Chinese New Year Celebration with John and Angela

Saturday, January 30, 2009

John and Angela had a celebration at school today! It was fun and exciting to watch them as they painted fans, danced, and sang songs. They had a nice Chinese meal and John and Angela were very generous to share. Apparently it wasn't hard for people to know that I was related because a few teachers said that Angela and I looked like one another! But mostly it was great because they were so happy that their mom and I could come... its great being loved :) Here are a few pictures of the days events!

I was born the year of the dog... and yes... some of the things they say seem to be true of me.(Dog (Yang, 3rd Trine, Fixed Element Metal): Honest, intelligent, straightforward, loyal, sense of justice and fair play, attractive, amicable, unpretentious, sociable, open-minded, idealistic, moralistic, practical, affectionate, dogged. Can be cynical, lazy, cold, judgmental, pessimistic, worrier, stubborn, quarrelsome.)

Wrestling gone wild!

Today was an eventful day in Virginia... Cindy and I ran some errands and talked about life as we ate at chic fillet. After I was able to watch Alisha, John, and Anna at their gymnastics classes. Each of them do very well and seem to be one of the best in class. Anderson kids are very athletic!!! After dinner we watched a movie that Jacob had made in junior high, it was rather entertaining... after the wrestling began...Jacob and Joseph have been on the wrestling team for the last couple of years in school. While I have been in Virginia I was able to see a few of their 3 minute matches. Each of them do very well. Jacob weighs about 20 pounds more than Joe so when they wrestle Joe has a challenge right from the start. Jacob and Joe had quite the show going on for the first 20 minutes... I saw hair pulling and biting(that's right, boys do it too... admit it :)) in order for Joe to make some kind of break. Anna said to Jacob at the beginning of the match "Don't beat Joe up, he is going to be my kids favorite uncle. Go Joe Go" After seeing Joe be under foot for so long his 6 remaining brothers and sisters came to the rescue. It was quite the fight. Jacob has some strength behind him. As each of the littler kids put forth a hand Jacob would simply swift them up in his arms as if they were a feather and fling them into a hold of one type or another. After 40 minutes of the kids wrestling Jacob I thought he was done... all of a sudden, much to my surprise, he came to the couch were I was cam cording the nights events, and pulled me to the ground to see how well I could do in the battle. I will gladly say that it did take him a few pulls on his part before he got me to the ground. I also have to admit that I couldn't hold my own in order to win but I was able to MOVE Jacob a little bit which says a lot because he is full of muscle and strength! Cindy kept yelling "Jacob, you cant do this... she is your aunt... she changed your diapers when you were a baby!" After I tangled with the beast for five minutes or so the little kids and Joe came to my rescue! After another 20 minutes or so we finally had Jacob pinned and he couldn't move his upper body because Joe had him, he couldn't move his lower body because I had his legs wrapped up tight in my arms and then the other 6 kids were every where else.

Jordan is quite the wild one any more... but he was scared to death of getting involved at all... Alisha tried her attack and did pretty good but in the end got hurt. John was a pretty good little fighter as he would wiggle and jiggle until he was free. Angela would just laugh as she was pinned, once she was freed she would re-enter for more. Anna had a jolly time kicking Jacob, only to get sucked in. Joshua tried rescuing the others but would try and hide behind me as Jacob came to attack... much to his "disappointment" Jacob got him pinned with in seconds. Joe tried to sic the dog on the pack... but lets be honest... the dog didn't have a chance. Eventually Joe would regain his strength and try taking Jacob when he wasn't paying attention. Joe held his ground for a good part of it... but alas he was pinned!

I haven't had to defend myself in a playful wrestling match since I was with my tickling roommates in Seattle. I had a great time! It was really fun and I enjoyed watching all of the events take place and I loved being a part of it! Its always nice to have a good physical challenge... but boy oh boy... I have a lot of work to do to put up any kind of match with Jacob.

I love being an aunt and getting the chance to play with my nephews and nieces! I adore them and am so grateful that I am able to take 6 weeks and play in Virginia with the Anderson's. Memories are such an essential part of life, hopefully we are making memories that will last a life time!

The initial thoughts of blogging :)

hmmm... what to blog about???? I just thought that if I started my own blog that it might be easier to keep up with everyone's blogs. I love reading other peoples blogs... Hopefully it will be a means for me to realize everyday the wonderful things that are going on in my life and prepare me to be better at documenting what is going on! Too bad I didn't start blogging years ago because throughout my life I have had some amazing adventures! Those adventures have come in between heartaches and school and simply life! I am learning over and over again that life is a roller coaster ride and you might as well enjoy it all even though some seem easier than others.
